Wordsmith, blacksmith, goldsmith, gunsmith, locksmith, the smiths go on. A smith is someone who crafts, shapes, or forges with a specific material.
But AgentSmith? Surely you don’t mean The Matrix?

Well… not quite. But in a few years, life might start to feel like a simulation.
The material of the future is information. The object is AI. And the smith? That’s your personal agent working with your data stack inside your tech, forging your daily tasks. The future is agent-based.
AI companions will become as ubiquitous and essential as smartphones giving ordinary people extraordinary powers to think, act, and create at scale. What we always hoped Siri would be is finally here. You’ll talk to it. Gesture on a multi-modal surface. Prompt it with your eyes through your glasses. It will read your calendar, your email, your bank account, your smart home and anticipate what you need before you know you need it.
It will know you.

Legendary Apple designer Jony Ive just partnered with OpenAI to build the next evolution of AgentSmith, moving AI from application into the physical world. And of course, Jony will make sure it looks good while we walk into full digital immersion.
But I see AgentSmith’s most obvious integration in the built environment:
sensors
interior design
estimating
building surveys
HVAC automation
That’s where it starts.
Ballpark will automate underwriting and site analysis. First in WIMP: windows, icons, menus, and pointers. But we’ll evolve. Your underwriting will be done by AgentBrown, delivering brown sugar knowledge on demand the second you find a site you like.
