We Signed Our First Deal
Berkshire's first post-Buffett move was a $6.8B bet on homebuilding. Closer to home: two weeks after launch, we closed our first deal.

An Edmonton guy just bought a homebuilder for $6.8 billion
Greg Abel, born and raised in Edmonton, made his first major move as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway last week. He acquired Taylor Morrison, one of the top five homebuilders in the US, for $6.8 billion in cash. This is the first big deal of the post-Buffett era, and Abel did not hesitate.
What I find interesting is the timing. The homebuilding industry is under pressure right now — high rates, expensive housing, compressed margins. Abel looked at that and saw opportunity, not risk. That is exactly the kind of long-term conviction that builds generational companies.
He must have learned from his mentor, Warren, who famously said:
Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.
We signed our first agreement
Two weeks ago we told you Ballpark was live. Since then, we closed our first deal with a developer who is actively using the platform on real projects.
This is exactly what we set out to do: build it alongside the people doing the work, and make sure it actually solves a real problem before anything else.
We are just getting started — before the paywall goes up.
